WOOD RIVER – A residential burglary in Alton reportedly involving stolen body armor has resulted in a felony charge against a Wood River resident.

Clayton W. Sitzes, 33, of Wood River, was charged on March 4, 2026 with a Class 1 felony count of residential burglary. Sitzes allegedly knowingly entered a home on Glenwood Avenue in Alton without authority and with the intent to commit a theft on Dec. 31, 2025.
A petition to keep Sitzes detained pending trial was filed The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office in this case. According to the petition, the victim reported that multiple items had been taken from their burglarized home, “including body armor.”
The petition states two subjects could be seen on video inside the residence with their faces partially covered. Sitzes was reportedly identified as one of the individuals in the video by his “distinctive hand tattoos.” The other individual confirmed they entered the residence with Sitzes, “but only because [Sitzes] threatened him with a firearm.”
Sitzes was later contacted by police and found to be in possession of the body armor, according to the petition.
The Alton Police Department presented the case against Sitzes, who was remanded to jail for his initial court appearance.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
