Vitality is a Godfrey-based pregnancy center that offers free STI and pregnancy testing as well as free ultrasounds. The staff will talk through options with people experiencing unplanned pregnancies. They also offer parenting classes and a resource shop. As a pro-life, faith-based clinic, Vitality does not perform or refer for abortions.
Executive Director Jackie Duty noted that the center has several needs right now. They want to repave their parking lot and update their medical technology. She believes the center’s work is vital to the community, and she hopes people will consider donating toward their capital campaign to fund these upgrades.
“You never know what this can do to impact the lives of the women that you might not even know in your community that are struggling,” Duty said. “Everyone’s got different issues. But when you find out that you’re not alone, there’s always somebody else out there who’s been through it, who can help you through it and hand you the keys to success — I feel like it’s just such a powerful message to know that you’re not alone.”
Duty admitted that she wasn’t aware of the scope of Vitality’s work until she joined their team. She has been pleasantly surprised to discover the “remarkable” work they do for pregnant people and new parents.
“I had my understanding of what the organization was before I started. I knew it was, like, free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests. And that’s all I really knew about it,” she remembered. “As I was getting in and just seeing all the other things that they do, it just blew my mind. There are so many programs in place to really just help women. How do we wrap our arms around them in the process?”
Vitality works hard to meet people where they are. Their services aim to support people through pregnancy and parenthood. Duty hopes many people will donate toward their capital campaign, as this makes it possible for them to do what they do.
She added that they are currently searching for a new nurse manager, and compassion is a major requirement if you apply. Everyone at Vitality strives to provide a “safe and judgment-free” environment for their patients.
“I think that’s the key,” Duty said. “You’re surrounded by a group of people that really care. They just want to see everybody win. And I think it’s just exciting to see the response of the women when they walk out, knowing that they’re not alone. In any situation, any outcome, they have a group of people who really care about them.”
Vitality aims to raise $100,000 by the end of the year. They are currently $10,065 into their goal, and Duty thanked an anonymous presenting sponsor who donated a large amount. She joked that it’s “not always sexy” to talk about repaving the parking lot and similar needs, but these are necessary to ensure Vitality’s success in the future.
She added that the organization has had a productive year so far, and she is thankful for the many community members and partners who have helped them help others.
“There are just so many good things happening,” she said. “The partnerships and the community getting involved, it’s been an exciting year. I’m excited for what’s coming. I feel like every day, every week, something new happens that we’re just continuing to grow. Now it’s just to get the word out and let more women know that we’re here to help any way we can.”
