Jeffrey A. Mullinix faces one count of interstate communication with a threat to injure, according to a federal complaint. Authorities say Mullinix posted a threatening comment on a YouTube video on Jan. 21, 2026, claiming he was en route to Minneapolis with weapons, had prior military experience, and intended to incapacitate at least 50 law enforcement officers.

The FBI was alerted to the comment by an anonymous tipster. On Jan. 22, 2026, law enforcement officers interviewed Mullinix at his home and seized two rifles.

“Violence and threats against law enforcement officers can never be tolerated, and those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft.

Weinhoeft also urged the public to “lower the temperature and seek calm,” emphasizing that threats and violence exacerbate challenges faced by communities and law enforcement.

“Threats of violence against law enforcement are taken seriously. The statements made by Mr. Mullinix were not off-handed, but were direct and specific,” said Karen Marinos, acting special agent in charge of the FBI Springfield Field Office.

Marinos thanked law enforcement partners for their assistance and for treating the matter with the seriousness it deserved.

The FBI Springfield Field Office is leading the investigation.

A federal complaint is an allegation, and Mullinix is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
