Frey, a senior, has participated on the school’s color guard team since she was a freshman. She also regularly helps paint sets for community plays, and it’s not uncommon for her to complete artwork on commission.

When she isn’t busy with her schoolwork or extracurriculars, Frey can be found tending to her chickens, hiking, foraging and making art. Her two passions — art and nature — have intersected as she creates paintings as well as digital and woodburning artwork. She also keeps a small lepidoptera collection, which is one of her prized possessions.

Frey has received recognition for her artwork, both at an art show at SIUE and in Highland’s community chalk art festival. She also received sixth place at a vet technician competition with the Future Farmers of America organization.

Looking ahead, Frey is excited for life after graduation, and her loved ones and teachers can’t wait to watch her succeed.

“I plan on going to Mizzou to study many fields of biology sciences in hopes of working in that field, either through conservation work or biologist research. I want to understand nature so I can help protect it,” she shared. “I’m proud that I've been able to accomplish these things even with my anxiety disorder and my attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.”

Congratulations to Sophia for this recognition by Highland High School and Platinum Transportation!
