JERSEYVILLE – After coming to Jerseyville from Venezuala, it hasn’t taken long for Sofia Bracho to make an impact in her school and community.
For the positive influence she’s already making as a Panther, Bracho has been selected as a Medford Wealth Management Student of the Month for November at Jersey Community High School (JCHS).

As a sophomore at JCHS, Bracho is involved in tennis, track, and cross country. She’s earned awards in cross country for Most Improved and Most Energy, and was previously named Panther of the Month and Panther of the Week on two prior occasions.
In addition to sports, Bracho enjoys going out with friends and crocheting in her spare time. She also regularly helps her friends throughout the community with outdoor work.
Originally from Venezuala, Bracho said she “came to the United States for better opportunities” and has been in Jerseyville for a year and a half. After graduation, she plans to join the Air Force and become a doctor.
Teacher Maddie Brown said Bracho is “persistent and always respectful,” adding: “She has built positive relationships with her peers and teachers in a short amount of time and we are so excited to have her in class.”
Principal Thomas Leslie said Bracho was nominated by several of her teachers, underscoring her fitting selection as a Student of the Month.
“She has made quite the impact at JCHS in a short amount of time,” Leslie said. “She shows up every day and works hard. She has a positive attitude and always has a smile on her face!”
