ALTON - The Alton River Dragons opened their home season on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, against Dubois County Bombers. They have another game at home tonight, June 3, where they will honor local first responders and play Cape Girardeau with a 6:35 p.m. start.

In a recent appearance on “Our Daily Show!” with CJ Nasello, players Sean McConachie and Kaedin Bond expressed their excitement to appear at home at Lloyd Hopkins Field at Gordon Moore Park in Alton. Both men play baseball at their community colleges, but they enjoy the opportunity to play summer baseball as part of the Prospect League.

“I didn’t really know what to expect, but I had heard it was pretty fun,” shared Bond, an infielder. “I’m enjoying it so far.”

Catcher McConachie is one of five returning players from the 2025 season. He explained that summer baseball is “definitely a change” from the collegiate-level ball he usually plays, but he enjoys every night he spends on the field.

The Tuesday, June 2, game brought out a considerable crowd to cheer on the home team. Fireworks ended the night to celebrate the River Dragons’ return to Lloyd Hopkins Field.

The River Dragons are looking forward to First Responders Night on Wednesday, June 3. They will compete against Cape Catfish for the win. The first pitch is at 6:35 p.m. and all first responders in attendance will receive free admission with ID.

The players will also wear special jerseys tonight, which will be auctioned off during the game. Proceeds will be split between the Alton Fire Department and the Alton Police Department.

Sean McConachie.During last year’s season, community members could often catch River Dragons players at local dining establishments after the game. McConachie joked he is often “tired” after playing but hopes to join his teammates more often this year. Bond said he hadn’t yet heard where their after-game meal would be held, but he was “in it” and excited to spend more time with his teammates.

The two players added that they often arrive at Lloyd Hopkins Field by 2:30 p.m. on game days, so they can get some extra practice time before games begin.

“We always go and just get extra swings in before our batting practice,” McConachie said. “Guys like to go hit in the cages and stuff like that.”

Last night was no different, and the players plan to follow the same routine tonight, June 3, with hopes of bringing in a win.
