THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

METRO EAST LUTHERAN 25-25, FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 15-22

Metro-East Lutheran surprised Father McGivney Catholic 25-15, 25-22, at Father McGivney in a contest on Thursday nigh. Metro East Lutheran improved to 4-7 overall with the win and Father McGivney is now 7-4. Emerson Isringhausen had 18 digs to pace the Griffins in the matchup.

MELHS plays Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 6:15 on Tuesday and Father McGivney battles Springfield Southeast at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.

CARLINVILLE 25-24-25, GREENVILLE 21-26-15:Carlinville defeated Greenville on Thursday night in three sets. Stat leaders for Carlinville are:

In the volleyball results from Thursday, Mascoutah won over Edwardsville 25-21, 25-19, Belleville East tripped Alton 25-13, 25-9, O'Fallon won over Belleville West 25-9. 25-14, Collinsville defeated Granite City 25-17, 25-14, Belleville Althoff Catholic swept Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 25-7, 25-18, Freeburg held off Civic Memorial 25-17, 25-22, it was Red Bud winning over Chester 25-15, 25-21, Columbia won over Waterloo in three sets 25-11, 24-26, 25-04, and Hillsboro swept Piasa Southwestern 25-18, 25-9.

FOOTBALL

In the only area game played on Thursday, Columbia won over visiting East Alton-Wood River 54-0.

BOYS SOCCER

LEBANON 8, JERSEY 2: Justice Drainer and Bradley Tueth scored the goals for Jersey in their loss at home to Lebanon.

The Greyhounds are now 1-1-1, while the Panthers go to 4-3-0.

TRIAD 9, CIVIC MEMORIAL 0: Parker Benson had a hat trick, while Colby Wheat came up with a brace (two goals), and T.J. Allison, Jacob Buchtel, Aiden Novich, and Aiden Wagner all scored as Triad won over CM at Hauser Field.

Auggie Benear only had to make one save in goal for the Knights, who are now 6-0-0. while the Eagles go to 2-5-0.

SOUTHWESTERN 5, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 2, Southwestern topped EA-WR 6-2 at Piasa on Thursday night. Reported Oiler contributors were Brad Lovett and Carson LeMond with goals.

In other games played on Thursday, Granite City won at Trenton Wesclin 5-1, Father McGivney Catholic shut out Marquette Catholic 3-0, Edwardsville defeated Collinsville 6-1, De Smet Jesuit of west St. Louis County nipped O'Fallon 1-0, and Columbia got past Belleville East 4-1.

JERSEY ATHLETICS

FOOTBALL

Jersey Community High School Freshman Football hosted Centralia and came away with a big 36-12 victory over the Orphans. The Panthers improve to 2-0 on the season with another strong performance.

JERSEY VOLLEYBALL

JCHS F/JV/V hosted Breese Central for a conference matchup, with all three levels battling hard but ultimately coming up short. The Freshman Panthers fell 11-21, 17-21. After a tough first set, the Panthers came out strong in the second, building an early lead behind some great serving from Kenzi Schulte, but fell just short of forcing a third set. The JV Panthers brought the energy all night, dropping a hard-fought three-set battle, 25-22, 18-25, 15-8. After winning the opening set, the Panthers battled back and forth, making Breese Central earn every point in an exciting three-set loss. The Varsity Panthers fell in two sets batting hard with a final score of 15-25 and 8-15.

JERSEY BASEBALL

JCMS Baseball (8th) traveled to Edwardsville and lost to Liberty, 11-1. The 7th grade team hosted and also fell short 11-4.
