ALTON – A Missouri man accused of fleeing from multiple Madison County law enforcement agencies within two days faces charges in two felony cases.

Jeremy W. Chaffin, 46, of Troy, Mo., was charged on April 2, 2026 with a Class 4 felony count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer in a case presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
In a separate but similar case presented by the Alton Police Department on the same day, Chaffin faces four total counts of the same offense, each Class 4 felonies.
On April 1, 2026, Chaffin allegedly knowingly attempted to flee from an Alton Police officer who had signaled for Chaffin to stop the vehicle he was driving at over 21 miles per hour above the legal speed limit. His attempted flight from the officer reportedly involved the disobedience of two or more traffic control devices.
The following day on April 2, Chaffin is accused of once again knowingly attempting to flee from the same Alton Police officer while exceeding 21 miles per hour over the legal speed limit and disobeying two or more traffic control devices.
Also on April 2, Chaffin allegedly knowingly attempted to flee from a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy who had also signaled for Chaffin to stop the vehicle he was driving at over 21 miles per hour over the legal speed limit.
Petitions to deny Chaffin’s pretrial release from custody were filed in both cases by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petitions, Chaffin fled from the Alton Police officer on the morning of April 1, then again on the morning of April 2, before being located by and fleeing from Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies after they initiated a traffic stop on April 2.
“Defendant's vehicle was stop-sticked, resulting in the front passenger tire being struck. Defendant continued to flee at high speeds. The tire on the defendant vehicle eventually fell off, causing the vehicle to slow down,” one petition states. “Defendant then abandoned the vehicle as it continued to roll. Defendant jumped a guard rail and fled on foot. Defendant was later detained by Deputies and taken into custody after their foot pursuit.”
Both petitions state that at the time of these offenses, Chaffin had an active warrant for his arrest and was out on pretrial release from custody in three prior felony cases from 2025, noting his “high likelihood of willful flight” from prosecution. Chaffin currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
