Hailey Handler.WOOD RIVER - Hailey Handler, a senior at East Alton-Wood River High School, has been recognized for her dedication and resilience in basketball.

Handler, who has played the sport since fourth grade, credits her persistence through numerous injuries and her competitive nature for earning this acknowledgment.

Handler is a Midwest Members Credit Union Female Athlete of the Month for the Oilers.

Handler expressed gratitude toward her parents for their unwavering support and belief in her abilities. She also thanked her coach, Joe Sears, for pushing her to reach her potential.

“I love the competitive nature of the sport and the many friendships I have made because of playing,” Handler said.

In addition to basketball, Handler participates in track, football, and tennis.

Reflecting on her high school career, she noted that sports have taught her patience and the importance of hard work to achieve her goals.

Although Handler does not plan to continue playing basketball in college, her experiences on the court and in other athletic fields have shaped her personal growth throughout high school.
