For her accomplishments, Mackenzie Cochran is a Hayner Public Library District Student of the Month for Alton High School.
Cochran, a senior, has played volleyball since her freshman year. She loves volleyball and was awarded the Academic Excellence Award with the Alton Redbirds volleyball team.
She also participates in the Growing Beyond Earth organization, and she was recently inducted into the National Honor Society. This recognition requires high grades and many hours of community service. Cochran has achieved both, for which she was also named an Illinois State Scholar.
She has received a few awards for her photography, and she spends a lot of time reading, watching movies, skiing, swimming, playing pickleball and riding four-wheelers when she’s not busy with her academics or extracurriculars. She is an active member of St. Mary’s youth group.
Cochran also works for both Alton’s and Godfrey’s Park and Recreation Departments, helping out during special events and summer camps. She regularly serves as a referee and coach for volleyball clinics and previously helped coach the St. Mary’s eighth grade girls volleyball team.
Cochran has achieved a lot during her four years of high school, but she is looking ahead to another successful run in college. Her loved ones and teachers can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
“I plan on getting my associate’s at Lewis and Clark, then attending a program at St. Louis Community College to become a diagnostic medical sonographer in the OB/GYN department,” she shared. “I am driven, responsible, and graduating with a year's worth of college credits.”
Congratulations to Mackenzie for this recognition by Alton High School and the Hayner Public Library District!
