BELLEVILLE - Belleville Police are investigating the death of a juvenile male who was shot Friday night in the garage of a home in Belleville, Illinois, authorities said.

Officers with the Belleville Police Department responded at about 7:53 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, to the 2700 block of Brookmeadow Drive for a report of a subject shot, according to a department statement. The juvenile victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

“Officers and EMS immediately provided medical assistance; however, the victim succumbed to his injuries,” the Belleville Police statement said.

The department’s Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene, along with the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office, police said.

Investigators interviewed witnesses who were present during the incident. “Based on preliminary findings, the incident does not appear to be intentional, and the Belleville Police Department is not seeking any suspects at this time,” the statement said. The investigation remains ongoing.

“To protect the privacy of the juvenile victim and witnesses, no additional information will be released,” police said.
