GRANITE CITY – A convicted felon from Granite City accused of battering a pregnant woman and pointing a firearm at her faces multiple new felony charges.

Son T. Nguyen Jr., 37, of Granite City, was charged on Dec. 1, 2025 with one count each of felon in possession of a weapon, aggravated battery (both Class 3 felonies), his second or subsequent offense of domestic battery (a Class 4 felony), and aggravated assault (a Class A misdemeanor).
On Nov. 29, 2025, Nguyen allegedly struck a household or family member about the face and head while reportedly knowing the victim was pregnant. He is additionally accused of pointing a .38 caliber revolver at the same victim in a threatening manner, a firearm which was unlawful for Nguyen to possess given his prior 2015 Madison County conviction for leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Nguyen’s pretrial release from custody in this case, stating he “has a history of domestic battery and flight.”
“Victim reported that defendant … came home angry and struck her repeatedly in the face and head, causing obvious injuries, including a severe nosebleed,” the petition states. “She reported that two of his friends tried to intervene, but he brandished a firearm, threatening to kill her and her children.”
The petition adds several nearby witnesses confirmed seeing the battery take place and that Nguyen was armed during the incident. Nguyen was reportedly located by authorities and admitted to being armed during the altercation, stating he “got rid of the gun after the fact.”
The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Nguyen, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
