ALTON – Two men from Godfrey face felony charges after separate alleged burglaries in Alton.

Mario L. Gray, 62, of Godfrey, was charged on Jan. 28, 2026 with one count each of felon in possession of a weapon and burglary, as well as two counts of theft, each Class 3 felonies.

Gray allegedly entered a pickup truck with the intent to commit a theft on Aug. 5, 2025, when he is also accused of stealing multiple leaf blowers, trimmers, a chainsaw, and other lawn and garden equipment from two different victims. At the time of these offenses, he was also reportedly in possession of a Winchester Model 70 rifle, which was unlawful for him to own as a felon previously convicted in Madison County of retail theft in 2024.

The Alton Police Department presented the latest case against Gray, who was granted pretrial release from custody.

Another Godfrey man was charged in a separate burglary case also filed in Madison County on the same day, Jan. 28, 2026.

39-year-old Michael J. Thompson faces a Class 2 felony count of burglary stemming from an alleged incident on Jan. 26, 2026. Thompson reportedly knowingly entered a residence on Oakwood Avenue in Alton with the intent to commit a theft.

Thompson was ordered released from custody pending trial in this case, which was also presented by the Alton Police Department.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
