Harris allegedly knowingly failed to obey and attempted to flee from a Glen Carbon police officer who had signaled for Harris to stop the vehicle he was driving on Jan. 30, 2026. Charging documents state he exceeded the legal speed limit by at least 21 miles per hour during his flight from the officer.

The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Harris’s pretrial release from custody in this case. The petition states officers witnessed a gray Toyota Tacoma commit a traffic violation while on routine patrol and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle before the resulting pursuit.

“The vehicle accelerated and fled onto Illinois 162, reaching speeds of 96 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour speed limit zone,” the petition states. “Officers terminated their pursuit and defendant was later apprehended in Missouri.”

The Glen Carbon Police Department presented the case against Harris, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial appearance in court.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
