EDWARDSVILLE - On Saturday, December 6, 2025, math team members from Liberty and Lincoln middle schools gathered in Edwardsville for the fifth annual Edwardsville Middle Schools’ Junior Olympiad competition. Organized by middle school math teachers Gardner Holland, Rachel Tucker, Katie Sok, and Kyle Lask, the event featured 36 participants, marking the largest turnout to date.
Students were divided into three-person teams to compete in five rounds of activities designed to encourage collaboration and creativity. Challenges included building a notecard tower, crafting a slow-falling paper snowflake, constructing a cantilever, and answering paper-and-pencil trivia questions.

The competition provided an opportunity for students to work together in a friendly setting. The first-place team from Lincoln consisted of James Bradley, Theo Luesse, and Grayson Whitaker. Liberty’s Tanner Bailey, Abe Nussbaum, and Max Zvolensky took second place, while the third-place team from Liberty included Roman Franken, Zeek Shepherd, and Isaac Sidarous.
Additional teams from Lincoln included Ashley Hong, Addison Haung, and Chelsea Ring; Aaron Hong, Hudson Harmon, and Ethan Chinn; Brayden Portz, Will Kannmacher, and Sam Porter; and Hunter Young, Will Goetz, and Colin Dorgan. Liberty’s other teams featured Aanya Patel, Caitlin Clark, Simon Keith, and Nolan Litteken; Abigail Wolf, Molly Kormann, and Claire Delap; Connor Doyle, William Wang, and Aike Chen; Zeke Fuhler, Alex Burgess-Scott, and Zach Andrea; and Ian Giacoletto, Carson Beevers, and Nolan Seabaugh.
Organizers thanked all participants for their involvement in the event, which combined problem-solving skills with teamwork in a day of engaging activities.
