EDWARDSVILLE - Summer construction projects are on track for the first day of school in Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7.

During the regular Board of Education meeting on July 27, 2026, Superintendent Dr. Allen Duncan provided an update on the summer’s projects and noted that almost all of the projects are finished.
The Edwardsville High School parking lot was repaved this summer. It is now striped and ready for students’ first day on Aug. 19, 2026.
The Midway Elementary School parking lot work is ongoing. Crews are currently fixing the culvert and adding an island to the entryway to help control the flow of traffic. Duncan noted this work should be completed by the beginning of the school year.
The Nelson Elementary School roof needed to be replaced after it sustained hail damage in the 2024–2025 school year, which is now completed. Hamel Elementary School received what Duncan called “an exterior facelift” and “nice little touch-up,” with a new exterior paint job.
Lincoln Elementary School has undergone considerable construction this summer. The parent drop-off area will not be completed until after the school year begins; Duncan reiterated that this was part of the district’s plan.
However, the courtyard was cemented with basketball hoops and seating added, which will be a nice addition for students. The auditorium is also receiving an epoxy floor and crews are finishing up work on the stage. This will be completed by the first day of school.
The district also moved its Central Office to the former EHS South building at 6148 Center Grove Road. Construction started in March to renovate this building, and the Student Services, Business, and Superintendent Departments are all located there now. There are plans to eventually move the Curriculum Department into the Central Office, as well.
“It’s been nice having the team together,” Duncan said. “We’ve been able to talk and communicate very quickly, so we’re just looking forward to having everybody together again.”
Duncan emphasized that the summer construction projects are running smoothly, and he can’t wait to welcome students and teachers back for the first day of school in August.
“Right now, we're feeling really good about Lincoln, feeling good about Midway,” he said. “The high school stuff is, for the most part, done. We’ve got little tuckpointing things going on outside the exterior buildings, which all should be wrapped up here soon…We look forward to a new year.”
