GODFREY – A Godfrey man faces felony charges in multiple recent Madison County cases involving identity theft, forgery, and more.

Cory M. Breuer, 43, of Godfrey, was charged on Jan. 23, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of identity theft after being charged just days prior on Jan. 20, 2026 with two counts of forgery (both Class 3 felonies) and one count of unlawful use of a credit or debit card (a Class 3 felony).
On July 1, 2025, Breuer allegedly knowingly delivering a fraudulent check to a local credit union which had been written on the bank account of another individual before returning and doing the same with a different fraudulent check written on a second individual’s bank account on July 6, 2025.
At the same credit union from July 1-9, 2025, Breuer reportedly used a third victim’s credit or debit card to obtain over $300 without the cardholder’s consent by representing himself as the cardholder. Breuer was granted pretrial release from custody in this first case, which was presented by the Bethalto Police Department.
Months later on Nov. 8, 2025, Breuer allegedly knowingly obtained, recorded or possessed the social security numbers of five different individuals, with which he is accused of intending to commit a felony.
The East Alton Police Department presented the identity theft case against Breuer, who was once again ordered released from custody pending trial.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
