JERSEYVILLE – A recent alleged domestic violence incident has resulted in a new felony charge against an area man with a violent criminal past.

David A. Depper, 39, listed as homeless out of Kane, was charged on Jan. 2, 2026 with one count of domestic battery, a Class 4 felony. Depper allegedly committed an act of domestic battery and caused bodily harm to a household or family member on Dec. 31, 2025.
Charging documents note Depper had previously been convicted of domestic battery in a prior misdemeanor case from 2010, also filed in Jersey County. He was also previously convicted in 2015 of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, in Morgan County, Ill.
Depper was ordered remanded to the custody of the Jersey County Jail pending a hearing on a petition to deny his pretrial release, which was filed by the Jersey County State’s Attorney’s Office in a separate misdemeanor battery case against Depper from November of 2025.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
