CALHOUN COUNTY – Two contested races for different County Commissioner terms are on the ballot for Calhoun County voters this November, as well as a few uncontested races and two public questions.

Incumbent Independent Deann J. Koster-Fester faces Democrat challenger Platrick Klunk and Republican challenger Michael Jason Leverich as each bid for a full six-year term as a commissioner on the County Board.

In the uncontested County Clerk race, incumbent Democrat Amy Friedel is seeking re-election unopposed. Incumbent Democrat Lisa R. Roth is also uncontested in her re-election bid as County Treasurer.

Republican Zach Hardin is unopposed in seeking election to a full term as Calhoun County Sheriff. Hardin was appointed in January 2026 to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of former Sheriff William “Bill” Heffington.

Democrat John “Mac” Shoopman is also running unopposed in his bid for County Supervisor of Assessments to replace Jill Waldheuser, who is not seeking re-election.

Whether the county assessor should be elected or appointed going forward is the topic of one of two public questions facing voters across the county and in the Village of Kampsville. The exact wording of each appears on the ballot as follows:

Supervisor of Assessments: Shall the county assessor of Calhoun County be appointed by the county board, rather than elected by the voters?

Village of Kampsville: “Shall the Village of Kampsville, Calhoun County, Illinois, construct and equip improvements to the waterworks and sewerage system of said Village, as provided in Ordinance No. 2026-1 of said Village, and issue said Village's Waterworks and Sewerage Revenue Bonds thereof, in an amount not to exceed $8,000,000 as provided in said Ordinance?”

A sample ballot for Calhoun County voters is available here. Early voting is open until Nov. 2, 2026 at the Calhoun County Clerk’s Office at 301 S. County Road in Hardin. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Saturday hours on Oct. 31, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
