ST. LOUIS COUNTY - Colonel Kenneth Gregory, chief of the St. Louis County Police Department, announced he will retire effective May 1, 2026, ending a 46-year law enforcement career that began in December 1979 with the department.

“After 46 years of service, the time has come for me to step aside and begin a new chapter,” Gregory said. “It has been an honor, a privilege, and an absolute pleasure to serve the residents of St. Louis County and to work alongside the dedicated men and women of this Department. St. Louis County will always be my home.”
Gregory started his career with the St. Louis County Police Department in December 1979 and spent much of his early service in North St. Louis County, according to the department. He later commanded the Division of Special Operations, the Division of Patrol, and the Division of Criminal Investigation.
He was appointed chief of police on Jan. 25, 2022.
As he retires, the department said it recognizes and thanks Gregory for his decades of service. The department said Gregory’s career reflects a commitment to public service, operational excellence and protecting the citizens of St. Louis County.
