TROY – A man accused of threatening to kill Troy city officials in an effort to stop data center development discussions remains in custody pending felony charges.

Anthony P. Hinojosa, 33, of Trenton, Ill., was charged on Feb. 6, 2026 with a Class 3 felony count of intimidation, and one count each of electronic harassment and false report of an offense, both Class 4 felonies.
On Feb. 4, 2025, Hinojosa allegedly threatened to physically harm any Troy city officials “responsible for the development of a data center,” with the intent to “stop ongoing public discussion, debate, and negation concerning the development of a data center within the municipal limits,” according to charging documents.
Hinojosa reportedly used public Facebook pages to threaten to kill and injure Troy city officials or contractors. He is also accused of falsely reporting to Troy city officials that an aggravated battery with a firearm would be committed, resulting in a police response, despite knowing there was no reasonable ground to believe the offense would be committed.
The Troy Police Department presented the case against Hinojosa, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
