ALTON - During their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Alton Community Unit School District #11 Board of Education approved a couple of key appointments.

Starting this next school year, Michelle Sherwin will serve as the K–8 Behavior Systems Support Specialist, and Rebecca Huller will serve as the new Supervisor of Special Ed. Both appointments were unanimously approved; Board members Tiana Gipson, Jason Harrison, and David Lauschke were absent.
Sherwin has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a special education certification, and a master’s degree in school guidance and counseling. She joined the Alton School District as an Eighth Grade Behavior Disorder Special Education teacher in 2006 before taking on the role of Behavior Disorder Coordinator at Alton Middle School.
She has spent the last ten years as a special education teacher in Alton’s Life Skills Program. During the Board meeting, Sherwin expressed her excitement to take on this new role within the district.
“I want to continue our mission for every Redbird every day, help all the kids feel accepted, belonging, and have that understanding, and continue to help them to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally, and to support our administrators, the buildings, my colleagues, everyone,” she said. “It’s all very exciting.”
Huller has a master’s degree in clinical child psychology and a specialist degree in school psychology. She has also obtained a master’s degree in educational administration and a Director of Special Education endorsement.
She has worked as a school psychologist at Collinsville, Cahokia, East Alton and Belleville School Districts. She also serves as an adjunct professor at SIUE and previously worked as the District MTSS Supervisor at Cahokia.
