BOYS SOCCER
JERSEY 4, BREESE CENTRAL 2: Jersey's Bradley Tueth continued his scoring prowess for the season with three goals in a match against Breese Central, where the Panthers prevailed 4-2.
Justice Drainer added a goal for the Panthers. Christian Rojas had two assists for Jersey; Carson Nevlin and Dylan Roth had assists.
The JV Panthers battled hard but fell just short, dropping the match 0-1.
OTHER BOYS SOCCER RESULTS
In the boys soccer results from Tuesday afternoon and evening, Freeburg shaded Civic Memorial 2-1, Jersey took a 4-2 decision over Breese Central, Highland defeated Mt. Vernon 7-0, Belleville Althoff Catholic clipped Marquette Catholic 5-2, Edwardsville won over Belleville West 4-0, Triad won over Mascoutah 6-0, and O'Fallon won at Collinsville 3-1.
BOYS GOLF
EDWARDSVILLE SHADES O'FALLON TO WIN SWC TITLE: Edwardsville got a two-round score of 148 by individual champion Brian Cooper to get past O'Fallon by a shot to win the Southwestern Conference boys golf championship on Tuesday afternoon at Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights.
The Tigers had a two-day team score of 606 getting past the Panthers, who had a team score of 607. Alton came in third with a 636, with Belleville West placing fourth at 650, Mascoutah, playing in their first-ever conference tournament, was fifth with a 658, Triad, also playing in the SWC tournament for the first time, tied for sixth with Belleville East, both shooting 667. Eighth place went to Collinsville at 690, and Granite City was ninth with a 735.
Cooper's four-over-par 148 was enough to win the individual title, with O'Fallon's Tyler Murray coming in second with a 149. Henry Willenborg of the Tigers and Jake Taddel of the Panthers tied for third with a 150 each.
In addition to both Cooper and Willenborg, Bennett Briggs shot a 153 for the two rounds, while Drew Capron had a 158, Luke Maxim fired a 159 and Michael Shaw came up with a 163.
GIRLS GOLF
TIGERS WIN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR FIRST TIME IN 11 YEARS: Edwardsville won the girls golf Southwestern Conference title for the first time since 2015 with a masterful performance in the second round of the tournament, which was played at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River.
The Tigers took the championship with a two-round score of 623, finishing well ahead of runner-up O'Fallon, who fired a 653. In third place was Belleville East at 705, with Triad finishing fourth with a 761, Mascoutah was fifth at 783, finishing sixth was Collinsville at 843, followed by seventh place Belleville West, who had an 846, Alton came in eighth at 899, and Granite City finished ninth with a 939.
Individually, Ally Suhre won another championship for the Tigers, firing a two-day total of 138, with Zoey Ficken of the Panthers the runner-up at 151 and Cassie Albertino of the Lancers finishing third with a 153.
Suhre had a second-round score of 69, with Emerson Gusewelle shooting a 78, Kylie Lintker came up with an 80, and Alexis Hunt shot an 82 for the second round. Gusewelle finished fourth overall, with Lintker placing fifth, and Hunt was seventh.
GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL
In a game played Monday night at Piasa Motor Fuels Field in Alton, Edwardsville won its seventh straight game, defeating Alton 33-6.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
CIVIC MEMORIAL 25-25, WATERLOO 12-23: CM won the first set easily, but had much more trouble in the second set, and held off Waterloo on the road to sweep the match.
Abby Brueckner served up eight points and two aces for the Eagles, while Addie Jeffrey came up with six points and two aces, also having 10 kills, two blocks, and two assists, Jalyn Hunt had seven kills, two blocks, and two assists, Adisyn Paslay had 13 assists, and Brueckner added 10 assists.
CM is now 12-5, while the Bulldogs drop to 5-3.
FATHER MCGIVNEY 25-12-25, MARQUETTE 19-25-23: The McGivney freshman won 25-17, 24-26, 15-10, and JV won 25-20, 22-25, 15-11. Marquette Catholic provided the following stats: Mia Moore led the team with 12 kills, Alex Stephan had 12 digs and 14 service receives. The Explorers' Alivia Beaber had 4 blocks.
CENTRALIA 25-25, JERSEY 13-20: JCHS F/JV/V Volleyball teams traveled to Centralia for a conference matchup. The Freshman Panthers battled hard but fell in two sets, 11-25 and 22-25. The JV Panthers fought through a tough match, dropping both sets 15-25 and 14-25. The Varsity Lady Panthers kept up the pressure but fell short in two sets, 13-25 and 20-25.
OTHER MATCHES
In other matches played on Tuesday, Mascoutah won over Belleville West 25-21, 25-13, it was Belleville East defeating Edwardsville 25-16, 25-13, Granite City got past East St. Louis 25-22, 25-23, Belleville Althoff Catholic came from behind to take a three-set win over Maryville Christian 20-25, 25-20-25-18, Red Bud got past Trenton Wesclin 25-16, 25-22, Father McGivney Catholic took a three-setter over Marquette Catholic 25-19, 12-25, 25-23, and Breese Mater Dei Catholic swept past Trenton Wesclin 25-11, 25-17.
