BETHALTO - Lucy Boyer of Festus, Mo. won the individual championship, and it helped spring the Tigers to the girls team championship at the Civic Memorial Twilight Invite cross country meet, held Saturday evening at the cross country course of the Bethalto Sports Complex.

The annual event has become a traditional season-opening meet for the Metro-East and St. Louis high school cross country season, and has become one of the area's most unique events of its kind in recent years, as it's the only meet of its kind to be held in the evening.

Festus took the team championship with 24 points, while Highland came in second at 85 points, Mt. Vernon was third at 98 points, Father McGivney Catholic was fourth at 148 points, and Wentzville, Mo. North Point rounded out the top five teams with 156 points. Among other area teams, Triad finished sixth at 172 points, seventh place went to Jersey at 179 points, edging out eighth place Breese Central at 183 points, and the host Eagles finished ninth at 193 points.

Boyer won the race with a time of 18:57.74, while Brenley Kelly of the Panthers finished second at 19:17.08, and taking third was Marisa Peter of the Tigers at 19:34.36. Placing fourth was Emberlie Goins of the Knights at 19:36.57, while fifth place went to Kyndall Gildea of Festus at 19:54.94. Teammate Elsie Nelson was sixth at 19:55.76, seventh place went to Ella Sparkman of North Points at 20:04.85, coming in eighth place was Jordan Hayes of the Rams at 20:11.63, Festus' Caroline Beard was ninth at 20:14.02, and rounding out the top ten was Rachael Reckmann of the Bulldogs at 20:17.47.

The top finisher for the Griffins was Elizabeth Moll, who came in 20th at 21:03.63, and the Eagles' best finisher was Lillie Wood, who was 26th with a time of 21:49.26.
