ROXANA - Civic Memorial took a three-set thriller in the semifinals over Father McGivney Catholic, then swept six-time South Central Conference champion Staunton to win the 17th Annual Midwest Members Credit Union Roxana Invitational girls volleyball tournament Saturday morning and afternoon at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym and other venues in Roxana.

The Eagles are now 5-0 to start the season after sweeping their group-stage matches, then taking both of their first-place bracket matches.

In the first place bracket, CM won over the Griffins in a three-set thriller 27-25, 22-25, 25-18 to advance to the final, while the Bulldogs took care of Carrollton 25-20, 25-11. In the third place match, the Hawks came from a set down to win over McGivney 13-25, 25-18, 25-19, while in the final, the Eagles swept Staunton 25-6, 25-15.

In the fifth place bracket, which featured teams that finished in second in the four groups, Marquette Catholic held off Greenfield Northwestern 25-23, 14-25, 25-21, while Hardin Calhoun did the same to Roxana 25-11, 26-28, 25-16. In the seventh place match, the Tigers won over the Shells 25-22, 25-17, while the Warriors won the fifth place match over the Explorers 16-25, 25-19, 25-23.

In the ninth place bracket, which had the teams that finished third in the group stage, Piasa Southwestern won over Jersey 25-18, 25-18, and Valmeyer got by Granite City 25-20, 25-23. In the 11th place match, the Panthers won over the Warriors 25-14, 24-26, 25-15, while the Piasa Birds won over the Pirates for ninth place 25-19, 25-16.

Finally, in the 13th place bracket, which had the four teams that finished fourth in their respective groups, O'Fallon First Baptist Academy won over Cahokia 25-18, 25-18, while East Alton-Wood River defeated Madison 25-20, 25-14. In the 15th-place match, the Trojans beat the Comanches 25-18, 25-19, while the Eagles beat the Oilers 25-19, 25-17 in the 13th-place match.
