The win evened the Tigers' record at 1-1-0 after losing their opener at Highland on Tuesday, while the Griffins also went to 1-1-0, falling in their home opener.
The win was Josh Boyd's first win as head coach of Edwardsville, and he felt the Tigers played much better than in their loss to the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
"Tonight, we did well," Boyd said after the match. It was a pretty interesting game, to say the least. We looked a lot better than we did on Tuesday. We were able to move the ball a bit, connect excellent passes, and we were dangerous in the attacking third. So, for us, it was a lot better, in terms of how we possessed the ball, how we tried to build out of the back, how we tried to create opportunities, using the width. For us, it was much better than what we had earlier in the week."
The Tigers will have their home opener Saturday afternoon against Moline at Tiger Stadium in a 12:30 p.m. kickoff, then play their conference opener at O'Fallon next Thursday at 6:30 p.m., then compete in the Morton Invitational tournament Sept. 4-5 in Morton.
The Griffins next play at Waterloo next Thursday at 4:15 p.m., then open their Gateway Metro Conference season at Belleville Althoff Catholic in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 8, then play at Marquette Catholic Sept. 10 at 5 p.m.
