WOOD RIVER — Some of the top high school boys golfers from across Madison County gathered Thursday at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River for the Madison County Invitational.

Drew Capron of Edwardsville was joined at 2-under by teammates Bennett Briggs, and Michael Shaw. Alton's Landon Mayer also tied for first.

Edwardsville's Brian Cooper, a junior, also finished under par, carding a 71 (-1).

Among other top local performers, Eli Lucas of Highland and Will Stevens IV of Roxana each shot an even-par 72.

Collinsville's Hayden Spudich finished with a 74 (+2), while Edwardsville's Brett Kirgan and Collinsville's Casen Compton each posted a 75 (+3). Roxana's Myles Bertoletti also finished at 75.

Several area golfers finished with scores in the 70s, including:

  • Brayden Kerns, Father McGivney — 76 (+4)
  • Aiden Flavio, Edwardsville — 76 (+4)
  • Carson Warta, Edwardsville — 76 (+4)
  • Nolan Snyder, Alton — 77 (+5)
  • Jack Stirnaman, Father McGivney — 77 (+5)
  • Logan Roberson, Civic Memorial — 77 (+5)
  • Ethan Henschen, Highland — 77 (+5)
  • Ethan Shaw, Granite City — 78 (+6)
  • Mason Uhercik, Granite City — 78 (+6)
  • Sam Johnson, Marquette — 79 (+7)
  • Sam Jun, Marquette — 79 (+7)
  • Parker Logsdon, Highland — 79 (+7)

Edwardsville won the team score with 281, followed by Highland with 312, Father McGivney with 314, and Alton with 316.
