BETHALTO — The Bethalto Village Board on Monday recognized two local figures during its meeting, as new Deputy Police Chief Michael Hogan had his badge pinned on and recent Civic Memorial graduate Max Weber was honored for his state track championship.

Hogan, who was sworn in on June 15, was formally recognized during the Monday, July 13, board meeting when his wife pinned on his badge before a packed room. He will take over for Scott Hale, who has been on administrative leave for several months for an undisclosed reason.

Hogan is a Civic Memorial High School graduate who began his law enforcement career as a Bethalto Police Explorer. He later served five years as a patrol officer with the Mascoutah Police Department before transferring to the Illinois State Police, where he served for 22 years and attained the rank of sergeant.

In a statement, the Bethalto Police Department said Hogan “brings a wealth of law enforcement experience, leadership, and commitment to public service.”

The department also said it was “excited to welcome him back to Bethalto” and looked forward to “the knowledge and professionalism he will bring to our department and community.”

Also honored during the meeting was Weber, a recent Civic Memorial graduate who won the Class 2A IHSA Boys State Track and Field 3,200-meter race championship in May at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Weber, who also won a state cross-country title in the fall for Civic Memorial, finished first in the 3,200 in 9:05.86.

Mayor Bost revealed a street sign that will be placed in Bethalto.
