EDWARDSVILLE - The Liberty Middle School seventh-grade boys track and field team was recognized recently at the Edwardsville School District 7 Board of Education meeting after finishing third at the Class 4A state meet with 25 points.

The boys' performance gives the Edwardsville School District high hopes for the future in track and field.

Liberty Middle state medalists for the seventh-grade team included Josh Payne, who won the state title in the pole vault. Austin Allaria finished second in the shot put, while Lawrence Hooks placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash.

The eighth-grade boys team placed seventh overall. Alex Siegel finished second in the discus, the 4x200-meter relay took second, and the 1,600-meter sprint medley placed eighth.
