“It was a perfect fit for me athletically and academically,” he said after his signing.
Heru, who was named Most Improved on Marquette’s track and field team as a junior, brings versatility to Blackburn’s program. This past season, he competed in sprints, sprint relays, and the high jump for Marquette Catholic.
Elijah is a Tucker's Automotive Repair & Tire Boys Athlete of the Month for the Explorers.
One of Heru's biggest accomplishments of the season was winning the Gateway Metro Conference high jump by clearing 5-7.25 to take the title.
He posted a best of 11.04 in the 100 meters at the Civic Memorial Outdoor Opener and ran 24.22 in the 200 meters at the Triad Sectional at the conclusion of the season. He was also a member of Marquette’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams and cleared 5-9 in the high jump for second place at a five-way meet at Southwestern.
“My philosophy is to live in the moment,” he said.
Heru also played basketball in his freshman season. His parents are Shannon and Ras Heru.
