ALTON — Emergency crews responded to a traffic crash late Sunday night in the 2200 block of State Street after a truck reportedly struck several parked vehicles before coming to rest in the front yard of a residence.

The crash occurred just before midnight, prompting a response from the Alton Police Department and Alton Fire Department. According to initial reports from the scene, the truck traveled along State Street, hitting multiple parked cars before leaving the roadway and stopping in a residential yard.

Shortly after the crash, the truck caught fire. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while police secured the area and began an investigation.

State Street was shut down as emergency personnel processed the scene. Crime-scene tape surrounded portions of the area, and officers restricted access to traffic.

Truck Ends Up in Front Yard After Crashing Into Parked Cars

The Madison County Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene a short time later. Authorities had not released information about possible injuries or how many fatalities as of early Monday morning.

The Alton Police Department’s Traffic Unit was also requested to assist with the investigation. State Street remained closed as of approximately 1:18 a.m. while crews continued their work.

Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the cause of the crash or the identity of anyone involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
