JERSEYVILLE - Max Laird and Zach Thornton both had three RBIs each, while Nolan Pichee drove in two runs as Alton Post 126's junior American Legion baseball team spotted Jerseyville Post 492 a 1-0 lead in the first, then scored 12 unanswered runs in taking a 12-1 win Tuesday night, June 9, 2026, at Jerseyville.

The win gave Alton a series split with Jerseyville, Post 492 having won on June 4, 2026, 12-2 in a game also played in Jerseyville.

In the rematch on Tuesday, Post 492 scored a run in the first inning to go on top 1-0, then the junior Legionnaires scored four runs in the third, then three in the fourth, and five more in the fifth to take the win by way of the 10-run rule 12-1.

Both Laird and Thornton had two hits and three RBIs each for Alton, while Pichee had a hit and two RBIs, both Clayton McCormick and Fletcher Groppel had a hit and RBI each, and Triston Ferguson also drove in a run. Groppel started on the mound and went 3.1 innings to earn the win, allowing an earned run on two hits, walking none and striking out four. Ferguson went the final 1.2 innings, not allowing a hit or run, walking none and fanning none.

Justice Drainer had a hit and Jerseyville's only RBI, while Issac Hackethal had the only other hit. Jagger Young was the starting pitcher, and was charged with the loss, going four innings and giving up seven unearned runs on five hits, walking three and striking out one, Brogan Kanalllakian pitched 0.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on two hits, walking four and fanning none, and Liam Spencer went for the final 0.2 innings, giving up no runs on no hits, walking one and striking out one.

The junior Legionnaires have won three in a row, and are now 7-4, and will play in a tournament this weekend in Danville, meeting host Post 210 Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., then go up against Vincennes, Ind. Post 73 at 3 p.m., then complete the group stage Saturday against Watseka Post 23 in a 10 a.m. start. Post 126 plays its final tournament game Sunday at 10 a.m., then hosts Aviston Post 778 June 15, and Maryland Heights, Mo. Post 213 next Tuesday at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Gordon Moore Park, both games set to start at 6 p.m.
