ALTON 5, WATERLOO GIBAULT CATHOLIC 4: Alton scored three runs in the third and two more in the fifth in holding off Gibault in a rain-shortened game that was stopped after five-and-a-half innings.

Alex Pilger had two hits and an RBI for the Redbirds, while Logan Hickman struck out two on the mound.

Both the Hawks and Alton are now 12-12.

MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 12, TRENTON WESCLIN 8: Marquette scored twice in the first and the fifth, once in the fourth and sixth, and six times in the seventh to take the win over Wesclin at Trenton City Park.

Eli Rodgers had three hits and three RBIs for the Explorers, while Joe Stephan came up with three hits. Both Robert Roentz and Tony Matthews struck out two each while on the mound.

Marquette is now 9-12, while the Warriors fall to 8-13.

MASCOUTAH 11, CIVIC MEMORIAL 3: Mascoutah scored single runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, along with five runs in the second, and three more in the seventh to win over CM at the Bethalto Sports Complex.

Brock Rust and a hit and RBI for the Eagles, while Brady Hasenjaeger struck out three on the mound.

The Indians are now 21-2, while CM goes to 14-10.

GREENVILLE 14, CARLINVILLE 1: Greenville pushed across four runs in the first, one in the second, three in the fourth, and six in the sixth to defeat Carlinville in a South Central Conference game at Loveless Park.

Blake Killam had a hit and he had the only RBI for the Cavaliers, while Ian Ronald fanned six on the mound.

The Comets are now 16-6, while Carlinville slips to 4-12.

GRANITE CITY 15, CAHOKIA 0: Granite City scored once in the first, six runs in the second, five more in the third, and three times in the fourth to take the win over Cahokia at Babe Champion Field.

Evan Brewer led the Warriors with three hits and an RBI, while Michael Terry went all the way on the mound, fanning six.

Granite is now 11-10, while the Comanches are now 2-13.

TRIAD 9, JERSEY 0: Triad opened the game with five runs in the first, then scored twice in both the second and sixth to take the Mississippi Valley Conference win over visiting Jersey.

Braxton Yates had three hits for the Knights, while Keegan Seipp had two hits and two RBIs. Nolan Keller struck out five on the mound. The Panthers got hits from both Brody Short and Abe Kribs, while John Kodros struck out two on the mound.

Triad is now 18-3, with Jersey going to 16-7.

VANDALIA 8, PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 3: Vandalia scored twice in both the third and fourth innings, then added four more runs in the seventh to win at Southwestern in another SCC game.

Carter Bacon had two hits and an RBI for the Piasa Birds, while Blake Rimbey also had two hits. Carter Watson struck out four while on the mound.

The Vandals are now 13-12, while Southwestern is now 4-21.

In other games played on Monday, Maryville Christian defeated White Hall North Greene 21-3, Breese Mater Dei Catholic shut out Carlyle 10-0, and East St. Louis won over Dupo 7-0.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

In Monday's only area match, Belleville West swept Maryville, Christian 25-19, 25-11.

BASEBALL

JERSEY 6, CARROLLTON 5 (8 INNINGS): Jersey scored four runs in the top of the third to take the lead, but Carrollton countered with three runs in the home half, then tied the game with a run in the seventh to force extra innings. The Panthers outscored the Hawks in the eight 2-1 to take the road win.

Abe Kribs had the only hit for the Panthers, but drove in three runs, while Bryce Hutchens struck out two on the mound. Jayce Steinkuehler had two hits and an RBI for the Hawks, while Eli Cox struck out 12 on the mound.

ALTON 2, HIGHLAND 1: Alton scored single runs in the third and fourth, and made them stand up as the hosts won at Redbirds Field.

Donovan Ducey had two hits for the Redbirds and also went all the way on the mound, fanning two.

MARYVILLE CHRISTIAN 6, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 4: Maryville scored once in the third and five in the fifth to help hold off a rally by Marquette and take the Gateway Metro Conference win at home.

Joe Stephan had two hits for the Explorers, while he and Logan Sherman both struck out two on the mound.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 8, CALHOUN 0: McGivney scored twice in the second, and three times in both the third and fifth to defeat Calhoun at Griffins Field.

Jack Hunter had two hits and an RBI for the Griffins, while both Lucas Perich and William Heinz struck out one each on the mound.

Jack Zipprich had two hits for the Warriors, while Selby Pohlman fanned three while on the mound.

VANDALIA 15, CARLINVILLE 5: Vandalia scored once in the first, nine times in the second, twice in the fourth, and three times in the fifth to take the South Central Conference home win over Carlinville.

Both Ian Ronald and Noah Convery had a hit and two RBIs each for the Cavaliers, while both Drew Quarton and Colin McKinney struck out one each on the mound.

WATERLOO 4, COLLINSVILLE 1: Waterloo spotted Collinsville a run in the third, then tied it with a run in the fifth, and three more in the sixth to win at home.

Will Swip had two hits and the only RBI for the Kahoks, while Henry Stirnaman had the only strikeout on the mound.

The Bulldogs are now 12-5, while Collinsville slips to 10-11.

STAUNTON 5, PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 4: Staunton scored three runs in the second and two in the fifth, then held on to defeat Southwestern at home in a SCC game.

Ben Biciocchi had two hits and two RBIs for the Piasa Birds, while Gage Campbell struck out three on the mound.

TRIAD 10, SPRINGFIELD SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN CATHOLIC 0: Triad scored once in the first, twice in the second, and seven times in the sixth to win at home over SH-G.

Braxton Yates led the Knights with three hits, while both Nathan Klucker and Keegan Seipp had two hits and two RBIs each. Koby Anderson went all the way on the mound, fanning two.

Triad is now 17-3, while the Cyclones slip to 6-6.

In other games played on Friday, Belleville West got past Belleville Althoff Catholic 6-4, Breese Mater Dei Catholic won over Valmeyer 6-4, Bunker Hill defeated Lebanon 13-2, Edwardsville shut out East Peoria 5-0, Greenfield Northwestern won over Barry Western 14-3, and St. Louis U. High defeated Freeburg 9-6.

BOYS LACROSSE

In the only match played on Friday, Columbia, Mo. Rock Bridge defeated O'Fallon 17-9.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

In a tournament being played this weekend at Rockwood Lafayette High in Ballwin, Mo., in west St. Louis County, Libreville Althoff Catholic won twice, winning over the host Lancers 5-22, 18-2, 25-11, then swept past Eureka, Mo. 25-15, 25-10.
