Triad's Caden Meier.TROY - Triad High School sophomore distance runner Caden Meier has posted a series of personal-best times this spring, including a 4:43.76 in the 1,600 meters on April 17, 2026, at the 2026 Military Classic. However, a parent of a competitor noticed something that is possibly more important than the personal bests at the Norm Armstrong Invite about young Caden. Jones pointed to Meier’s conduct after the 1,600 at the Norm Armstrong Invite.

“I watched Caden’s 1600 race at the Norm Armstrong Invite in Belleville,” Jones wrote. “He appeared to have achieved a new outdoor PR in the 1600, yet after the race he shook hands and congratulated the athlete who finished directly before him.”

Jones said he wanted to recognize Meier’s combination of performance and demeanor.

“I’d like to nominate him for Athlete of the Month for his outstanding work and sportsmanship,” Jones wrote. “Finding both in an athlete is rare.”

Meier’s 1,600 performance came after he ran 4:47.33 for 29th place at the Norm Armstrong Invite in Belleville, Illinois. Brian Jones, the father of a competitor, said he watched Meier at that meet and was struck by what he saw.

“Sophomore Caden Meier from Triad High School is putting a big stamp on Track and Field Distance,” Jones wrote. “This young man is impressive.”

Meier has also produced strong results in longer races. On March 27, 2026, he ran 9:41.71 for fifth place and a personal best at the Triad Distance Carnival.

In the 3,200 meters, Meier has recorded multiple notable times this season: 10:26.56 for fifth at the O’Fallon Boys Relays; 10:25.35 for second on April 8, 2026, at the Edwardsville Frosh-Soph Invite; and 10:11.14 for third and a personal best on April 14, 2026, at the Highland Frosh-Soph Invite.
