“People shouldn’t have to stay home from work all day waiting around for the cable guy to show up.” said Belt (D-Swansea). “This is about basic respect for families who have to balance jobs, child care and everything in between.”
Senate Bill 3066 would make a major change to how service appointments work in Illinois. The measure would require companies that provide a service, like a cable or plumbing company, to give property owners or tenants a two-hour service appointment window. If the company provides a service window that exceeds two hours, then the company would have to provide a one-hour notice via phone call or text to the consumer before they arrive. If the service provider fails to comply with the new rules and the consumer is not present at the residence when the provider arrives, the consumer could not legally be charged any new or additional fee.
Senate Bill 3066 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
