WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, released the following statement after voting against the government funding package that includes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill:

“As we have said, Democrats are ready to pass the five bipartisan government funding bills now, but the DHS bill needs serious work. I’m glad that the White House has finally come to the table and is working with Leader Schumer to avoid a partial government shutdown, rein in ICE, and find legislative solutions to restore order and public safety.

“This Administration’s campaign of terror has led to deaths, serious injuries, and the detention of innocent people. Americans are demanding change—we must deliver for them.”
