Semaj Stampley and O'Bryant Brown had 6 apiece, and Jamauri Sorrels added 5 points for the Redbirds.

The game’s scoring by quarter saw Alton steadily pull away, posting 13, 15, 20, and 13 points across the four periods, compared to MICDS’s 11, 16, 5, and 9 points. MICDS’s leading scorers included Stores with 7 points and Ray with 6.

Dylan Dudley, the Alton head boys basketball coach, said: “It was a good defensive effort on Saturday. I have learned it is hard in this league to play games on Saturday after a Friday night.

"To come back out in a physical game against MICDS and respond and stay with it for the long time, it was a good win. I think a win like this continues to build our kids' confidence and the changes we have made defensively. The kids are buying into it, and I have to give more credit to our kids for how they are playing."
